An Oregon Aquarium Trip, for An Enjoyable Day on the Oregon Coast.

I am happy that you have decided to go with us this Oregon weekend, on our Oregon Aquarium Trip. Grab your camera and binoculars, maybe a snack if you wish and we are off. Our journey will take us into Florence where we will head north to Newport and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. We have chosen Eugene as our starting point because it is centrally located for most all of out day trips. Are you ready? Then here we go.

We start our trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium by heading west on Hwy 126 the (Florence-Eugene Hwy). About 10 miles out side of Eugene we make our first stop. Most people just drive by Fern Ridge Reservoir. We what to stop and enjoy the beautiful sight for a few minutes.

Fern Ridge Resevoir

Now is a good time to talk about our philosophy on day trips. This is what we are talking about when we say enjoy the drive as much as the destination, in this case the Oregon Coast Aquarium. When you are driving and something catches your eye, pull over and stop. Check it out, you will be amazed at the things you will see and enjoy. Besides it gives you a chance to slow down and relax. You do not have to race to your destination. As the old saying says Stop and Smell the Roses you will be glade you did.

Oregon Coast Florence Beach We arrive in Florence and now head north on Hwy 101, for our Oregon Aquarium Trip. We drive past Darlingtonia Wayside. You may want to take a few minutes to visit this area as it is a very relaxing location. We pass the Sea Lion Caves and the Heceta Head Lighthouse. As we continue north we will pass through Yachats and Waldport before we reach our destination. The Pacific Ocean will be on our left side the whole way up to the Aquarium. This provides many places to stop and see the magnificent sites available along the Coast.

Oregon Aquarium

We arrive at Newport and turn right on Anchor Way and follow the signs to the Aquarium. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is considered one of the top ten aquariums in the United States. After spending some time at the aquarium it is time to head for home, but before we head back we have time to see the two local lighthouses.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

We first head north over the bridge about 4 miles and turn left onto lighthouse drive. This takes us first to Yaquina Head lighthouse, which is both the larger and newer of the two lighthouses. After a short visit we head south to the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. A few pictures later and we are heading home.

Now it’s time to head back from our Oregon Aquarium Trip. South to Hwy 126 then east all the way back to Eugene. It has been a great day. We never had to rush and we were able to see many wondrous sights. We are glad you came along with us. Return soon for another adventure on our Oregon Weekends.
